Virginia Fabbri Butera, Ph.D. (Ginny)
My goal is to help as many artists as I possibly can so that they can succeed at the highest levels. I have studied art and artists from many angles. I received my B.A. in Renaissance Studies from Trinity College, Hartford, CT, an M.A. in History of Art from Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. in Art History from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York. I am currently a Professor of Art History, Chairperson of the Art Program and Director of the art gallery at a college in northern New Jersey.
I have been curating art exhibitions for more than 40 years for museums and galleries such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Toledo Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery and other prestigious institutions around the country. I have published articles in a variety of art magazines including Arts Magazine and Ragazine and have written essays and catalog entries for various artists’, gallery and museum catalogs. I am constantly lecturing widely on various aspects of art and the art world.
In addition to fellowships, internships and positions at institutions such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, I have been a curatorial consultant for Morris Arts (Morristown, NJ), the Jersey City Museum (Jersey City, NJ) and the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey (Summit, NJ), where I also re-organized the exhibition program and served as Chair of the Exhibition Review Panel among other positions. On behalf of several institutions, I have written successful applications for grants from private foundations and state and federal agencies.
Throughout my career, I have worked with and advised many collectors on purchasing art and building their collections. I have helped arrange, install and document collections. I regularly visit dozens of art galleries, artists’ spaces and museums and am deeply familiar with the work of hundreds of contemporary artists. I am in a unique position to advise artists and private and corporate collectors, particularly in the New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia areas, on contemporary art.
Let me help you create your artistic package to attract the attention you want for your career!
